Agriculture Improvement Support Services (AGRISS)
Kenya has made significant strides in key development outcomes in the recent past, however, the country remains highly unequal with a majority of the population still very poor. Agriculture is the backbone accounting for about of the country’s GDP. Ove 60% of the country’s agricultural production is by small scale farmers who continue to present the majority of the country’s poorest and most disadvantaged.
AGRISS believes that empowering farmers especially the small scale farmers in the rural areas and amongst the urban poor is the best way to ensure equity and wellbeing. We believe the farmers of Kenya are passionate and creative. When farmers are supported through a holistic approach that puts the farming households in the center of agro system development, farmer organization and sustainable livelihoods, then Kenya will truly achieve sustainable development.

Agriculture and Food Security
AGRISS leads collaborative, farmer-led research to address agricultural challenges such as pests, diseases, soil fertility, and crop productivity. This involves partnering with NGOs, research institutions, and farmers to develop, test, and disseminate sustainable agricultural technologies.

Food and Nutrition
AGRISS implements projects that improve household nutrition by promoting diverse, nutritious food production. This is achieved through Farmer Field Schools focusing on sustainable agriculture, home gardening, and value addition, particularly for vulnerable and HIV-affected populations.

Child Support
Through projects like the MWENDO program, AGRISS supports OVCs and their households with access to health, education, child protection, and economic empowerment programs. This includes nutrition-sensitive gardening, agro-enterprise development, and savings and loan initiatives.

Climate Change Advocacy and Resilience Building
AGRISS engages in climate change advocacy to promote decentralized climate action and resilience. This involves raising awareness, influencing policies, and supporting grassroots adaptation strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on smallholder farmers.
